Andrew Davis is Dean of the College of the Arts at the University of Houston. A music theorist by training, he has written and lectured widely on opera and instrumental music of the Romantic and late-Romantic periods. he is the author of Il Trittico, Turandot, and Puccini’s Late Style, published in 2010, and Sonata Fragments: Romantic Narrative in Chopin, Schumann, and Brahms, published in 2016. He is a strong advocate for the value of an arts and a liberal-arts education, for students and for the society at large; the benefits of international study-abroad opportunities for students; and the opportunity for the arts to actively engage and transform the University, the neighborhood, and the city. At the University of Houston he has served previously as Associate Dean of the Honors College and was appointed to the faculty in 2003.
